Plans to ban the sale of new combustion engine cars in the European Union by 2035 have been thrown into turmoil after pressure from car manufacturers.

The European Union has watered down its plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles by 2035.

Britain announced that it will rejoin the European Union’s Erasmus student exchange program in 2027, six years after it ditched the scheme during fractious Brexit negotiations.

A £570m deal for the UK to rejoin the EU’s Erasmus student exchange scheme has raised hopes for Sir Keir Starmer’s wider Brexit reset, including a new under-30s visa scheme.

However, London will contribute £570m (€650m) in the 2027/28 academic year, which the UK government says is 30% less than the price for non-EU states.
