New Zealand has a long track record of moving public or community-linked assets into corporate structures. Once that happens, the conversation changes. Governance changes. Financing changes. Incentives change. That does not prove water rights will be sold. But it does mean dismissing the concern as nonsense is lazy. History says people should pay attention earlier, not later.
