Philippine folk dance is known to be mimetic in nature. The practice of mimesis involves the mirroring, or miming, of actions from animals and plants. Hula translation. He Mele No Lilo means “A Song for Lilo.” It’s the opening chant in Lilo & Stitch. The words come from an older chant, He Inoa No Kākuhihewa, a great chief of Oʻahu remembered for peace, prosperity, and generosity. Some versions also reference King Kalākaua, who revived hula and Hawaiian culture. This version was performed by Mark Kealiʻi Hoʻomalu with the Kamehameha Schools Children’s Chorus.
